Crochet Headband

I had a small amount of purple yarn left so decided to make something small and quick…. and this is what I came up with! A crochet headband/ear warmer. ๐Ÿ™‚ However, it’s not really appropriate at the moment what with the lovely weather we are having! Oh well……

As you can see from one of the above photo’s, I have added two buttonholes to one end of the headband and then attached a button to the other – so that the headband can be pulled tighter if wanted. I crocheted the flower very similar to that of the blooming flower I did for my gadget cozy previously, except the centre of the flower is slightly different. When I attached the flower and put the headband on, I realised I had sewn the flower a bit too close to the centre of it – so I think I will remove the flower and attach closer to the side of the band.

This headband took approximately 3 hours to crochet including the flower (whilst watching TV so was probably less really), and about 10 minutes to sew flower/button and weave in the ends.

I’ve managed to use up one of my purple yarns, however I do have another – well, purple is my favourite colour after all ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and hopefully the weather stays nice for us in England. Off to a wedding fayre on Sunday – slightly excited already!!! Hehe

Finished Design For Mum

Standard

This is the finished design for my mum’s Mother’s Day Card. Think she will really like it as it is quite simple but still has her favourite things – butterflies and flowers. I’ve attached some plain white paper to the back of the stitched design so that no stitching can be seen through the aida but also because I’m mounting it on some backing paper and do not want that to show through either. I love double sided sticky tape – much less mess than glue – although I do sometimes have trouble getting the backing off, that’s the trouble having no nails ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

This is the backing paper I have used. Got quite a large pack of these for only 99p in a local craft shop – wish I had brought some other designs as well but we are on a tight budget (what with buying a house, getting married, honeymoon etc ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I’ve again used double sided tape to stick the paper to the front side of the card. Looks pretty doesn’t it?!

And here’s the finished card! I was going to have a look through my ribbon stash but I have now decided that it does not need any embellishments etc. Think it would look too busy. It looks great for the upcoming spring time don’t you think? I’ve decided I might do the heart design as well – either as an actual heart hanging or maybe just a card for Mum’s Birthday in June – not sure yet.

Oh and during my crafty time, Lillie decided to sit on some of my stuff (good job it wasn’t on any stitched work!). Bless her, she likes to lie down on random pieces of paper, even if the whole table is free from stuff she will still sit on something! She can sit on our gas bill any day of the week ๐Ÿ™‚

Having a lazy Sunday today which is perfect – will do so more crochet later – have a mini project on the go at the moment then it is on to a bigger project soon. Seriously need to use up some of my wool – PR isn’t too impressed that it’s overtaken the living room – however the cats love it. Yet again Lillie picked up some of my wool and trailed it all the way through the house – can’t help but laugh at her xxxxxx

Hope you are all having a lovely lazy Sunday too

Thomas Cross Stitch Progress

Standard

20120129-142621.jpg

This is what I have done so far. Was up quite late last night stitching and doing more today too. Its not a very big design – measures 6.5 x 8cm, so should be fairly quick to produce two in time for the birthdays. Think I might do Thomas’ mouth a bit different – not too keen on how it looks in the design.

Have you noticed the sparkly aida? I love it – have some of this one which is pale blue but also have pale green with sparkles – perfect for adding that little bit extra to a design. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think Thomas is coming along nicely don’t you think?

Thomas Cross Stitch

Standard

20120128-185255.jpg

Been looking through this lovely Thomas the Tank Engine Cross Stitch book today. It’s quite an old book but picked it up off eBay quite cheaply. Seeing as both me and PR have each a nephew that love Thomas, I just couldn’t resist this book.

Both nephews will be 2 next month so have been looking through this book for inspiration. They both already have quite a lot of Thomas related things, so I have decided on a smallish design that I shall cross stitch and probably make into a birthday card.

20120128-185844.jpg

There are lots of designs for each character but I just had to choose a Thomas one! Obviously ๐Ÿ™‚

Might find a nice alphabet design so that I can cross stitch their names etc on the design too.

Started cross stitching one last night. Will post photos soon ๐Ÿ™‚

Choo Choo Thomas!

Ta Da!

Standard

Here is the finished project that I posted about earlier. So did you guess right?

Very cute little flowery slippers ๐Ÿ™‚

Had to completely re-do the one slipper as I forgot to crochet into the back post only which helps make the sides of the slipper more defined. (only realised when I had nearly finished the thing!)

All around the top edge are chain spaces which I may thread some ribbon through and tie at the back of the slipper – think it might look cute. Better dig out my ribbon stash ๐Ÿ™‚ Could also put a button in the middle of each flower – what do you think?

Finally Finished Crochet Bag

Standard

I have literally just finished my first ever crocheted bag. What do you think? I’m fairly pleased with it – although if I did it again think I would make the strap a little longer.

I have lined the inside of the bag and sewn a little pocket on the lining too. The strap is also lined with interfaced fabric.

Had a tricky time attaching the strap to the sides of the bag but managed to sew them on with matching wool with fairly good result.

I have decided to start my cross stitch project next and because it is a large piece, in between I think I will crochet a little purse to match! *must stop adding to my to-do list* ๐Ÿ™‚ My to-do list is growing by the day however I am quite pleased that I tend to finish projects before starting another. Unless they are huge then I might have more than one UFO on the go! ๐Ÿ˜€ How many UFO’s do you have on the go???

I’m Back!

Standard

Wow! It has been a while since I have blogged hasn’t it?!

Now that it is a new year, time for new projects I think. My crochet bag is coming along quite well now ( had a minor mishap with some lost stitches so did have to unravel quite a bit – will upload a more recent photo soon of my progress!).

Also I want to start a very big cross stitch project which is of an African theme – surprisingly it is going to be for me for a change! Although I do have some ideas for gifts for people this year too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Will try and upload another tutorial soon – a slightly different project that is good for the environment yet useful and quirky at the same time – so keep checking back!

Now that Christmas is done and dusted, I can upload some pictures of the gifts I made, have a look and do let me know what you think ๐Ÿ˜€

A Cat That Should Be Called Scrooge

Standard

Just look what Lillie did earlier today, bless her think it scared her a lot! She obviously does not like Christmas or want Santa to come to our house. Do you think we should rename her Scrooge? ๐Ÿ™‚

Haven’t really managed to do much crafty stuff the last few days as have been suffering with a cold and chest infection ๐Ÿ˜ฆ boohoo really hope I start to feel a bit better soon!

Did manage to make a little tree decoration….. mistletoe! Don’t think I will be standing under it what with my lurgy at the moment ๐Ÿ˜‰

Back tomorrow, Miss C xx

Treat Yourself To A Handmade Quilted Craft Bag.

Standard

I have now posted the tutorial I promised a few days ago, on how to make a quilted craft bag. Has taken me a while to get it typed up – I blame my brain not wanting to function in a technical way!

Head over to the tutorial section and check it out. Why not treat yourself to a new bag forย Christmasย to hold all your fabric, wool or whatever crafty bits you want!

This tutorial has been the first time I have properly attempted quilting. Hope you all like my first attempts (andย definitelyย not my last :)) Please feel free to post any comments or questions. Happy quilting! Miss C xx

My Kinda Sunday :)

Standard

Been on the sewing machine all day! Only stopped because the light was getting poor ๐Ÿ˜€ Seriously need to invest in a daylight bulb for my crafting room.

Made my first serious attempt in quilting today, and I am quite pleased with the result actually (still need more practice though! ). Have a look at the picture below and let me know what you think??

As you can see from the photo, I have finally made the craft bag I was blogging about! I will post the tutorial tomorrow, so make sure to check back!

Next on the agenda is going to be more cross stitch and crochet (made into yet more Christmas decorations most likely :D). Obviously I will keep you updated. Also I will try and post some crochet patterns for some of the things I have made (if there is one in particular that I have made then please let me know!).

Just In Time

Standard

Today has been a full day of cross stitching…. have major stitcher’s thumb right now!

Finished off the rest of my gift tags ready for wrapping presents. Have done no wrapping whatsoever yet so need to get cracking pretty soon.

Currently have one Christmas present yet to finish as I’m waiting on fabric coming from the US (thought I had enough fabric but clearly underestimated it and the only place I could find it was in the States ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ). Talk about cutting it fine eh?

So what do you think of my gift tags? Pretty cute I think. Glad they are finished though – the amount of fractionals and backstitch was starting to get to me and my thumb!

Found Dottie lying in the mostย peculiarย place earlier – right in the middle of the kitchen diner completely sprawled out. She’s so funny:) Both Dottie and Lillie are going completely mental at the moment because other half has got the laser pointer out which they love trying to catch. Isn’t she cute……

Apologies for blurry photo ( I may be good at crafty stuff, but photographyย definitelyย not!) ๐Ÿ˜€

Finally Finished…..

Standard

This morning I have managed to finally finish off these little cross stitch houses. They came free with another one of my cross stitch magazines, CrossStitcher. Have had them nearly finished for ages, just needed to slip stitch the gap closed after stuffing them. What do you think?

Trying to start making more of the free gifts I get as they are beginning to pile up now, what with all the other projects I want to do! ๐Ÿ™‚

Not quite sure where I am going to hang them…. but I’m sure I will find a place!

My supply of new wool came this morning, which has made me very happy…. shh! don’t tell my other half but I am actually waiting on another lot! Ooops hehe ๐Ÿ˜€

Seriously need to make myself that craft bag I was telling you, I am going to have no space in my plastic bag(!) ย for my new wool! Must go, have more things to make ๐Ÿ˜› Miss C xx

Another Padded Bauble…..

Standard

Yesterday wasn’t a day full of craftiness sadly :(, but I did manage to make another
one of my padded baubles with an added edge. What do you think?

I also attempted to crochet a little mouse for our two cats, Dottie and Lillie, to play with but it looked nothing like a mouse! However, the cats enjoy batting it about so that makes me happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m awaiting new supplies of some wool as my crochet to-do list gets bigger and bigger by the hour. Also have some cross stitch decorations I want to start – but they shouldn’t take too long to do.

In the next few days I will upload another tutorial – how to make a craft bag for all your wool, threads, fabric or whatever you fancy keeping organised! I’m in desperate need of one, what with my growing stock of wool now!

Which reminds me, I have found a really good app for the iPhone which stocks loads of free crochet/knitting patterns for pretty much everything. Check the ‘Out There’ section for more details.

Another tree decoration to add to the collection……

This one is made of two parts. I crocheted the front design and then did exactly the same for the back. Crocheting the two circles together, adding some stuffing inside before crocheting closed.

Was going to put a button in the centre of each side but didn’t have a button big enough for my darning needle to go through! Ooops! ๐Ÿ™‚ Guess I could have sewn them in. Never mind!

At some point in the next few days I will post the patterns for my crochet bits n bobs so you can all have a go! I might even try and do a video tutorial :s will have to get other half to help I reckon, he’s a whizz kid on the camera!
