Apologies…..

Standard

First things first…. I must apologise for not blogging for ages! And it really has been ages 😦

The reason for this is not because I haven’t been crafting, its because life has got in the way a lot. We are currently in the process of packing all our belongings up ready for the move to our very first house next friday. Very excited about owning our own home but equally stressed out about it – just wish I could click my fingers and it would all be moved over – somehow do not think that will happen 😦

Still yet to pack away the craft supplies – I’m determined to leave it to the last minute (because you never know when you might get a few spare minutes to do a bit more crocheting etc!) 🙂

As well as putting our lives into boxes, we have also been busy with wedding plans. Which are coming along nicely now (was not particularly organised to start with!) Invites have now been sent out – just waiting on RSVP’s so that we can organise the seating plan – which I already know will not be an easy task.

The above picture shows a cross stitch card that I did for my Nan’s birthday – stitched it up at pretty much the last minute (good job I have kept a lot of the free kits that I got with magazines!!). It is a Kate Knight design which I am pretty sure it came free with a Cross Stitch Crazy magazine.

I have also been crocheting (still massively addicted to it :)). However, I forgot to take photos of a couple of things I hooked up before I gave them away – one being a three eyed alien toy and the other being a bunny rabbit complete with a pompom tail (first time I have ever made a pompom – took a while but turned out much better than I expected).

I did, however, remember to take a photo of one of the things I crocheted up which is for a new baby that is due to arrive soon……

I used a pattern that ‘HodgePodge Crochet’ posted a while back – it is called Baby’s First Bunny and you can find the post here. I bookmarked it ages ago because I thought it was so cute but did not have a reason to crochet it…..until now! It was so very easy and quick to crochet – the instructions are very easy to follow, will definitely be making more when the time comes 🙂

I am hoping to blog again before the big move happens (and also before the internet gets turned off – will be a few weeks without it 😦 how will I survive not being able to look at my favourite crochet blogs – oh yeah, I know, I have the wordpress app on my iPhone, no excuse to be moody then 🙂 🙂

Peppa Pig – My Own Version

Standard

I searched for quite a while for a crochet pattern of peppa pig, but could only really find a knitting pattern. Since my knitting skills are not quite as good (or as quick) as my crochet skills, and I did not have the time to try and convert the knitting pattern to crochet….. I decided to make it on my own 🙂

And here she is! I am really pleased with how it turned out. Think I will have to make her brother George too!

My little nephew absolutely adores watching Peppa…. ‘more peppa’ he keeps saying 🙂 So this is for him. I hope he likes it as much as I do!

When searching online for crochet patterns, I get a little miffed when I see lots of toys for kids which are absolutely amazing and ones that I know my nephew and PR’s nephews would love, yet they are knitting ones only. Must try and convert them to crochet I think. Fireman Sam and Postman Pat are the top two next to try and crochet. Wish me luck 🙂

Squiddly Dudley

Standard

This is Dudley. Dudley is a sailor; he also cooks in the Royal Navy. He is extra special because he can work faster than anyone else due to his eight hands!

His speciality is curry and all the other sailors love him because he tells them really funny jokes – ‘Oh Dudley, you are so funny’ they often shout!

…..a little present for my nephew 🙂

A Late Easter Post

Standard

Sorry I have not posted for a while…. two weeks I think! What have I be doing you might be thinking?

Well, we went away for a week to Cornwall over Easter – stayed in a lovely cottage with my brother and his family, did lots of lovely walks along the coastline, ate fish n chips, ice-creams and watched all the little ones crab fish around Padstow Harbour. Wonderful!

And I even managed to do a bit of crochet whilst on holiday! Yay! I have also gained two crochet students – my Sister-in-law and nephew – I’ve got them both ‘hooked’ 🙂

Prior to our Easter holiday, I managed to make the chicks you can see above. A mummy and a baby chick 🙂 Loved making the mummy chicken – might have to make a daddy one too!

I managed to make a few more granny squares on holiday for my Morocco inspired blanket, however I don’t feel like I am making as much progress as I wanted. Partly because I am really cracking down on our wedding plans now (ordered my dress on Saturday :)) and also because I keep adding projects to my to-do list!! I am so bad – can’t help looking at other projects (and not just crochet at that!), especially small projects as I like it when I see the finished result so quickly ( which is a bit of a life-saver what with my large crochet blanket project on the go).

Speaking of to-do lists, I have a few more crochet amigurumi’s added on to it, a cross stitched card, a crochet present for a new baby, and a cross stitched cushion – these are the most important projects at the moment but there are many more on the list! Think my blanket will be pushed to the back for the time being. Boo Hoo!

My granny squares so far:

The tower of squares at the back of the photo are the ones I did a while ago which I posted about, and the others are the ones I completed on holiday – not sure if you can see from the photo, but the front six are a slightly different design. The design is called ‘Criss Cross’ and is made fairly similarly to the original granny – entirely treble stitches. More tails to weave in now…….

Nearly finished another amigurumi, so will be back soon! 🙂

A Friend For Oscar

Standard

Oscar has a new friend!

Meet Alan the Lion. He plays saxophone in a jazz band. He likes to listen to indie and rock music on his iPod – he also taps his foot to ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’.

It only took me an afternoon to hook up Alan’s body, however, his mane took all evening (just finished it around midnight last night!), but I do love his mane! If you look closely at his tail you can see a small tuft of hair there too 🙂

Now that I have made two of these cute little amigurumi animals, I decided to browse (!) eBay for some safety eyes. Managed to order quite a few pairs for only £2…. bargain! So, watch this space for more of these little cuties!

Now a quick update on my Morocco inspired blanket – have roughly planned out how many granny squares I need of each of the three different designs I am doing and all the times are nicely weaved in on the ones I have done already – think I have around 30 or so done. Still a way to go though! Must get my hook on 🙂

Hope you are all enjoying the weather

Crochet Headband

Standard

I had a small amount of purple yarn left so decided to make something small and quick…. and this is what I came up with! A crochet headband/ear warmer. 🙂 However, it’s not really appropriate at the moment what with the lovely weather we are having! Oh well……

As you can see from one of the above photo’s, I have added two buttonholes to one end of the headband and then attached a button to the other – so that the headband can be pulled tighter if wanted. I crocheted the flower very similar to that of the blooming flower I did for my gadget cozy previously, except the centre of the flower is slightly different. When I attached the flower and put the headband on, I realised I had sewn the flower a bit too close to the centre of it – so I think I will remove the flower and attach closer to the side of the band.

This headband took approximately 3 hours to crochet including the flower (whilst watching TV so was probably less really), and about 10 minutes to sew flower/button and weave in the ends.

I’ve managed to use up one of my purple yarns, however I do have another – well, purple is my favourite colour after all 🙂

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and hopefully the weather stays nice for us in England. Off to a wedding fayre on Sunday – slightly excited already!!! Hehe

Hippy Cushion = Done

Standard

Managed to finish my lovely new cushion off yesterday. What do you think? I’m a little annoyed that you can see the join in each round slightly – I’m even more annoyed that last night I was reading through a magazine and it shows you how you can join an invisible round! Wish I had known about this technique earlier! Oh well, you can only see it if you really look for it. Think it looks quite pretty on our bed – I know it doesn’t match the bedspread but we do usually have chocolate coloured ones. I accidentally woke Dottie up whilst taking photos of my cushion so I could not resist taking a few snaps of her too…….

Got a bit more backstitching to do on my cross stitch project I posted about previously – backstitching always takes longer than you think it will doesn’t it?

So I will be back soon…..

Naughty But Nice!

Standard

Mmmm Cakes and cookies!

These are what I have been making the last week or so. First up was the cupcake…..

The original pattern did not have a cherry on the top but instead had sewn on buttons and sequins. I was going to do that but then decided (seeing as I love cherries) to make my own little cherry! To make it is very similar to how you would crochet a little button. Will post a couple patterns for some buttons soon as they come in so handy!

Mmmm if only this cupcake was real!

Next up was the Chocolate Gateau slice……..

The original colours of this pattern was completely different but I decided to do chocolate cake with cherry filling and obviously a little cherry on top again! Could make so many different variations – oohh what would you make?

Next up was the cookies and doughnut…..

Here we have a heart shaped cookie with frosting, a frosted ring doughnut with chocolate icing (did not have the proper colour for a doughnut so it had to be a frosted one! 🙂 ), and my other half’s favourite….an Oreo cookie! I love these little ones…the oreo is so easy to make – it’s literally just three circles sewn on top of each other, think it took about 20 minutes to make and it looks so real!

The final cake I made was this one………

Battenberg! I absolutely love battenberg so it seemed right to make one, but this one is MY OWN pattern! Yay! My first ever pattern. What do you think? I know the lighter colour needed to be a yellow but the only yellow I have is way too bright so its actually a cream colour.

I will upload the pattern to my battenberg cake for you all – just need to remember how I made it now! Was a case of making it up as I went along. Check back soon for the pattern!

This next delight is not a cake but a lot more healthier and also cute to look at…..

A little amigurumi strawberry (without the stitched face though!)

So which delight is your favourite??

Quick update on my hippy cushion – I have now completed both sides and will start stitching each side together (double crocheting all the way around). Will only double crochet around half way today as I am still waiting on my cushion pad to be delivered – hopefully today – fingers crossed! Cant wait to have it finished and on display! 🙂 Check back soon…

Monkeying Around

Standard

This is what I have made today – my little sock monkey 🙂 I think he should be called Maurice – other half thinks Trevor. What do you think he should be called – or her for that matter!

By making this, I managed to perfect the use of the magic ring to start. I have never used the magic ring technique before, but its actually not as hard as I first thought. There are lots of You Tube videos, and written tutorials on how to do it – see Crochet Me for written/pictorial step by step or see the video post below! Hope these help 🙂

Magic Ring Tutorial from Crochet Geek.

When making this monkey, it was vital to use a stitch marker (if you do not have a stitch marker a different coloured bit of wool will work just as well). I’ve not used a stitch marker before when making something and it turned into a disaster! So my one bit of advice to you is always use a stitch marker when advised!

Think I might make another page on my blog for some of my favourite crochet patterns – will obviously test them first as I know all too well about working on a pattern for ages and then you realise the pattern is totally not up to scratch. Check back in a few days and hopefully I will have managed to post a couple of little patterns for you to hook up.

On another note, I have really wanted to produce another tutorial for a sewing project that is brilliant for the environment (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is what the project is all about) – just have not got round to it yet but I will, I promise 🙂 In fact, I haven’t got my sewing machine out for quite a while now – too busy with my crochet hook at the moment.

Well I’m off to try and do a few more rounds of my hippy crochet.

Crochet Bunting

Standard

Finished off my crochet bunting yesterday. Just had lots of tails to weave in and also make the chain to attach each flag to. It’s currently hanging in our open fireplace in the lounge – brightens up quite a dark area I have to say 🙂

The pattern is again from Nicki Trench’s Cute and Easy Crochet. However, I have changed the colours as they were pale pastel colours like pink and lilac – it is called ‘Knickerbocker Glory Bunting’ after all! The original colours didn’t really go with my living room so decided to do them mainly in red with white and petrol blue.

They are rated at beginner level because they really are quite simple to make. All it uses is chains, slip stitch, double and treble crochet, and decreasing two double crochets together to get the triangle shape. Only took about two evenings work in total. I can see me making these in the original colours for my sister in law who would love these – especially in pink!

So what do you think of my not-so knickerbocker glory bunting??!! 🙂

From my previous post called ‘What To Do Next’, I have been debating what to start – in all honestly I know I will end up doing them all as I love everything about each project. But…….I have chosen. Last night I started making the cushion – partly because that was the project PR said he liked the most (he never gets THAT interested in what I make! 🙂 ), but also because I loved the different colours in the circle effect (oh and because you can never have too many cushions)! Managed to do 6 rounds last night whilst watching a bit of TV and have no real plans today so I am hoping to get a lot more rounds done – maybe even finish one side of the cushion; hmmm fingers crossed.

Still have another Thomas the Tank Engine Cross Stitch to do for PR’s nephew, and I also have to finish my secret project in the next week – eek! Lots to do, so little time.

Now that I have realised how much I have to do, I had better dash

See you very soon

Oh What To Do Next?

Standard

I’m coming to the end of a smaller crochet project and so I am thinking about what I want to do next! 🙂

So, first up is this cute crochet flower purse. Been wanting to crochet a little purse to go with the bag I made earlier. Would probably use similar variegated wool to the bag so hopefully it would look OK.

Second up, is this lush stripey round cushion. I love it so much -so bright and funky! Would definitely make sure I have some brightly coloured yarn for this one.

Next up is this crochet hat – I really like it as it looks simple yet looks really cute too. Uses a few different stitches which I haven’t really done a lot of so will be quite exciting to do this one. Think it would make a lovely present to someone too.

Last, but by no means least, is a crochet granny blanket. I love granny blankets so much and really want to make one! Would try and make my own version of this granny blanket with different colours etc. Would not be a quick project but I know it would be a much loved and much used item!

Hmmmm, decisions, decisions! What do you think? Love one in particular? Let me know! 🙂

Still have my huge cross stitch project which I have probably spent 8 hours on and it still looks like I have done hardly any! Must take photos of the progress – think that will help. I’ve also been doing smaller cross stitch projects (one being Thomas the Tank Engine which I posted earlier) and another couple that are a secret at the moment! Shhh! Will post them soon don’t worry 🙂

Will also post my current crochet project when I have finished it – just needs some finishing touches.

Might be back later, but have a great day!

Ta Da!

Standard

Here is the finished project that I posted about earlier. So did you guess right?

Very cute little flowery slippers 🙂

Had to completely re-do the one slipper as I forgot to crochet into the back post only which helps make the sides of the slipper more defined. (only realised when I had nearly finished the thing!)

All around the top edge are chain spaces which I may thread some ribbon through and tie at the back of the slipper – think it might look cute. Better dig out my ribbon stash 🙂 Could also put a button in the middle of each flower – what do you think?

Cute And Easy Fingerless Gloves

Standard

My latest crochet project! Managed to finish weaving all the tails in today. They were so easy to make – much easier than I first thought. They are made with wool that make them feel so cosy and warm! Might have to make another pair in a fuchsia colour for someone I know that loves anything pink! Obviously had to do mine in purple 🙂 Love the colour purple.

I have adapted the pattern slightly – the original pattern makes the finger end very frilly (not really to my taste to be honest). So instead I did 6 long dc’s into each chain space around the top and then finished the edging with a row of dc’s. This makes the top edge a bit like shell edging.

The original pattern is in Nicki Trench’s Cute and Easy Crochet. Had this book as a Christmas present and there are so many lovely patterns – took me ages to decide which one to do first. I’m definitely going to make the little purse and the blankets are to die for – seriously need to invest in more wool for the blankets though! There is also a lovely pattern for a pink and a blue teddy bear – perfect for little ones – so very cute!

On a completely different note – away from anything crafty – but something I am so excited about – we’ve booked our honeymoon! Yay! Only three days after our wedding we shall be jetting off to Morocco in a lush hotel. Excited much?!

Ciao for now (not Moroccan I know, but I dont know Arabic at the moment  😉 )

I’m Back!

Standard

Wow! It has been a while since I have blogged hasn’t it?!

Now that it is a new year, time for new projects I think. My crochet bag is coming along quite well now ( had a minor mishap with some lost stitches so did have to unravel quite a bit – will upload a more recent photo soon of my progress!).

Also I want to start a very big cross stitch project which is of an African theme – surprisingly it is going to be for me for a change! Although I do have some ideas for gifts for people this year too. 🙂

Will try and upload another tutorial soon – a slightly different project that is good for the environment yet useful and quirky at the same time – so keep checking back!

Now that Christmas is done and dusted, I can upload some pictures of the gifts I made, have a look and do let me know what you think 😀
